STAVROS S NIARCHOS

The Tall Ship Youth Trust's training ship STAVROS S NIARCHOS sailed today after a short visit to Glasgow. Together with her sister ship, PRINCE WILLIAM, they were built in 2000-01 at Appledore to replace two similar ships built in the 1960s. Each ship is manned by a full time crew of six, with thirteen additional volunteers to make up the staff who actually run the ship. They also carry up to 48 extra 'trainees', mainly young people, to 'learn the ropes'. STAVROS S NIARCHOS is spending tonight at anchor in Brodick Bay, and is due to arrive at Leith next Sunday afternoon.
