Arriving off Ashton yesterday afternoon, the coaster HUNTER is one of the Erwin Strahlmann fleet, and was acquired by them in 1998. Built in 1981 by the JJ Sietas shipyard at Neuenfelde, she was originally named DEIKE and was the first ship of their Type 110 coaster design. Taking advantage of the Oslo tonnage rules, she was originally measured at 999 gross registered tons, and is of the maximum size capable of navigating up the River Rhine. Her hull includes a shortened bulbous bow, and she has a hydraulic bridge to give her a low air draft. She is 87.9 metres long, and her current tonnages are 1,949 gross tons (not the same as registered tons quoted above), and a deadweight of 3,221 tonnes.
