An early afternoon arrival at Greenock today was the side-loading newsprint and container ship LYSVIK, resplendent in the colours of her owners, DFDS Lys Line. Built in 1999 by the ABG Shipyard at Surat in India, LYSVIK was the first of three sisters from the shipyard, and measures 129 metres overall. She was lengthened by some 27.1 metres in 2004 at the Nauta Shiprepair Yard in Gdynia, a process described in some detail here. Inserting the 150-tonne section took just 37 days, quite a remarkable achievement. Since being stretched she has a deadweight of 5,175 tonnes and a gross tonnage of 7,409 tons. Her container capacity was increased from 112 TEU to 160 TEU.
