Lying at the riverside berth at Shieldhall, and just arrived from Liverpool today, was the coaster MARNE, here to load scrap metal for 'recycling'. Another of
Erwin Strahlmann's fleet, MARNE was completed in 2005, although her keel was laid in 1998.
Her completion by her builders, Slovenske Lodenice Komarno, was delayed by the closure of navigation on the Danube. Originally ordered by a Dutch company, she was later taken over by Strahlmann, and is named after her owner's home town. She is of her builder's 'Leda' design, with an overall length of 86.57 metres, and a deadweight of 3,539 tonnes.
