WAVE KNIGHT - A389

Fleet tanker WAVE KNIGHT arrived at Loch Striven this morning, and is seen here berthing with assistance from the Serco Denhom tug SD-DEXTEROUS. WAVE KNIGHT was built by BAE Systems at their Barrow shipyard and launched in September 2000, entering service two-and-a-half years later. She has a Clyde-built sister ship, WAVE RULER, and they are capable of replenishment at sea on either side, and also astern. Single-screwed, they have diesel electric propulsion which give them a speed of around 18 knots. With an overall length of 196.5 metres, her load displacement is 51,500 tonnes. Armed with two 30mm cannon, they are also capable of working with Merlin helicopters.
