Another member of the
JR Shipping fleet, and a sistership of a former well known regular caller at Greenock,
ENDEAVOR, made her first visit to Ocean Terminal today on the MacAndrews
UK/Iberian route via Rotterdam. According to the company's sailing schedule, ENCOUNTER should have been in Bilbao today, which suggests that she may have exchanged places with
VELAZQUEZ at least for this voyage. ENCOUNTER is currently on charter to
CMA CGM, which owns MacAndrews, until August 2008 through a Dutch shipbroker,
Confeeder. One of a
class of eleven similar ships, she was completed by the
Volharding Shipyard in Holland using a hull built in Romania by Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries in 2004. With an overall length of 134.65 metres, this 9,450 tonne deadweight ship can carry a total of 750 TEU containers, with 225 stowed in her hold and 525 stacked on deck. ENCOUNTER arrived this morning from Liverpool, and sailed this afternoon bound for Rotterdam.
