HMS WALNEY - M104

Exercising off Greenock today was the 'Sandown' class minehunter WALNEY, together with a former fleetmate, ENS SAKALA, now a member of the Estonian Navy. WALNEY, which was seen previously on ClydeSights in September last year wearing the lion rampant funnel crest of the First Mine Countermeasures Squadron now carries that of NATO as the flagship of SNMCMG1. SAKALA, second of three 'Sandown' class ships joining the Estonian Navy, was handed over at Rosyth at the end of January following extensive refurbishment. She was previously HMS INVERNESS (M102) before decommissioning in 2005 before being sold to Estonia in September 2006.
