A small coaster arrived at Ayr yesterday evening just as it was turning dark. After sheltering in the lee of Arran for a couple of days, IVY crossed the firth and entered the harbour with a cargo from Ghent in Belgium. IVY was built in 1985 by JJ Sietas and as GERDA RAMBOW, was employed as a member of the large Wagenborg fleet. She was sold in 1995 to Cypriots, and renamed COIMBRA, becoming IVY ten years later. She now operates for a Dutch firm,
Nyki Shipping, whose houseflag is visible on her foremast. IVY is 3,030 tonnes deadweight, with an overall length of 87.99 metres.
