After an early arrival this morning, the coaster RMS RIGA sailed again after discharging her cargo of fabricated steelwork for the new Type 45 destroyers under construction at BAE Systems' yards at Scotstoun and Govan. RMS RIGA, which flies the Belize flag, is owned by a Latvian company,
Riga Shipping Ltd. She was built in 1984 by the German builder Sietas, perhaps better known now for their container ships which are regular callers on the Firth. RMS RIGA was launched as KIRSTEN, and has carried the names TUDOR and RMS HOMBERG before being renamed RMS RIGA in September 2006. She is 79.57 metres long, and has a deadweight of 1,380 tonnes.
