After a farewell visit to her adopted home, the Type 42 destroyer GLASGOW was seen in October 2004 as she headed away from Yorkhill Basin, itself now consigned to history. GLASGOW was built by Swan Hunter, and commissioned into naval service in 1977. GLASGOW was the first RN warship to enter the Falkland Islands Exclusion Zone in May 1982, and shortly afterwards she was the unfortunate recipient of an Argentinian bomb, which passed clear through her after engine room. After three days of repairs, she was fighting fit again, and rejoined the front-line. GLASGOW was decommissioned in 2005 and remains at Portsmouth awaiting disposal.Thursday, 10 July 2008
