Making her way out of the Garvel Basin this morning, the Kingstown, St Vincent and the Grenadines-registered coaster DANTIC had just delivered two new gates to the Garvel Drydock. The gates are to replace the original ones, which dated from the graving dock's opening in 1874 and were suffering from old age, and badly in need of renewal. The announcement that the repair yard had been given a new 30-year lease was taken as a signal for ordering their replacement, and DANTIC collected the gates from Peterhead a few days ago. Some pictures of the actual lift of the two gates from DANTIC's hold can be seen here. DANTIC was built in Germany in 1981 as IRMGARD. The 1,102 tonne deadweight coaster is 63.17 metres in length, and following her brief call at Greenock, sailed from the Clyde for orders.
