LEONA and SOUND OF SANDA

Two red vessels spent the night in each other's company at Sandbank on Thursday night, as weather conditions meant that Western ferries' SOUND OF SANDA had to find an alternative overnight berth to her usual Hunter's Quay pier. She is seen early on Friday morning berthed alongside the German coaster LEONA, which was loading a cargo of round timber at Sandbank for export to Finland. LEONA was built in 1987 by the Husumer shipyard in Germany, and although launched with that name, soon became SCOT CARRIER, a name that she carried until 1994. Like many german coasters, she is owned by a one-ship company and managed by a larger concern, in her case Jurgensen, Brink and Wolffel. Cargoes for this 82.02 metre long vessel are arranged by Echoship. She has a deadweight of 1,900 tonnes.
