Currently employed in extensive dredging works at Largs Pier, which is being redeveloped by its owners, Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd, the small hopper dredger RAMSGATE has been making a number of trips from Largs each day to the spoil grounds off the mouth of Loch Long. She was seen on Thursday afternoon as she made her way back to Largs after dumping another load of spoil. RAMSGATE is owned by Wyre Marine Services, and is now based at Fleetwood although as her name might suggest, she started her career based in the Kent port, where she was operated latterly by Thanet District Council. She was the last dredger built by W J Yarwood at their Northwich shipyard, and was completed in 1962. She is 31.1 metres long, and is 156 gross tons.
