Seen alongside at Customhouse Quay, the sail training ship STAVROS S NIARCHOS was about to leave for a week-long cruise around the Western Isles. Built in Appledore in 2000, she is rigged as a brig, with square sails on both of her masts. Her crew consists mainly of paying passengers - she carries up to 48 of them at a time, together with around a dozen volunteer crew and six full-time staff. Her sister, PRINCE WILLIAM, is currently for sale, as the Tall Ships Youth Trust wishes to acquire four 22-metre ocean going yachts.
