To see coasters such as HAV SNAPPER heading downriver in ballast is unusual, but in this instance, the ship had been discharging a cargo of animal feed at Glasgow and was heading to Hunterston to load a cargo of coal for a Norwegian port. HAV SNAPPER was built in 1991 and over the years has variously been named SAAR LONDON, GROOTHUSEN and WALZBERG before adopting her current name in 2009. She is a product of the Gorinchem shipyard of the Damen company, and has a deadweight of 2,767 tonnes, and an overall length of 88.2 metres.
