Following the two cruisers was one of the large 'Oliver Hazard Perry' class of frigates, now much fewer in number in the US Navy as many of the ships have been sold to other nations. KAUFFMANN is one of the later ships in the class, having been built by the Bath Iron Works and completed in 1987.
