HMS MERSEY - P283

One of the Royal Navy's three 'River' class patrol boats working in UK waters was seen exercising off Innellan. HMS MERSEY, fifth ship to be thus named, was the last of the three ships built by Vosper Thorneycroft at Woolston and joined the Royal Navy in 2003. A fourth, similar, ship was later built to serve as a patrol ship in the Falklands - she is named CLYDE and is slightly larger, with a helicopter deck aft.
