RONJA VIKING

While on passage to Loch Striven, Solvtrans' wellboat RONJA VIKING suffered from a main gearbox failure as she was heading north along the east coast of Bute. This resulted in her losing all power and the fish carrier began to drift. The Greenock-based tug AYTON CROSS was dispatched to give assistance and took the disabled vessel under tow. The pair are seen above as they made their way slowly towards Greenock.

Off No 1 Buoy at the entrance to the river channel, AYTON CROSS released the tow and manoeuvred herself to RONJA VIKING's stern, the pair then proceeding stern-first to the James Watt Dock. RONJA VIKING was duly berthed at the Garvel repair yard for assessment and the start of repairs, expected to last several weeks.
